The twins St. Kosma and St. Damian had medical skills, which they used when christianising pagans. Both the saints died together by martyrdom and they became the patrons of doctors and pharmacists. The statue shows them standing by Christ, wearing university gowns and holding a martyr’s branch and a drug pot.
